I’M INNOCENT! Danny Tetley says singing career is ‘over’ despite not one criminal charge against him
DANNY Tetley has spoken exclusively to BenidormReviews.com for the first time since UK tabloids revealed the X Factor star is under police investigation.
Speaking from Bradford, he said he was ‘innocent’ of accusations he had incited sexual activity in a minor through social media.
But despite ‘not one criminal charge’ brought against him, he said he now ‘can’t leave the house’ without facing verbal aggression – and has even received threats on his life.
He added his career was ‘in ruins’ with various promoters dropping him from live shows even though police have found ‘no evidence’ relating to the accusations.
“My career is over, even though I’m still an innocent man,” the 37-year-old told BenidormReviews.com.
“I’ve been tried by the Sun and found guilty – but not a piece of evidence against me has been proven.
“Thousands are calling me a nonce, a pervert or a paedo, and I haven’t been charged with anything.
“I’m living through a nightmare.”
Earlier this month The Sun revealed Danny – a staple singer in Benidorm bars – had turned himself into West Yorkshire police in May.
The X Factor semi-finalist was under suspicion of having incited sexual activity in a minor, for which police seized Tetley’s phone.
But the singer exclusively revealed to Benidorm Reviews he will tomorrow be granted six months police bail – the maximum legal time – as the investigation ‘has nothing on him’.
This is despite West Yorkshire police investigating Danny’s messaging history for a whole three months.
“When people pick up a paper, they only read the headlines, never the full story,” Danny said.
“If I even go out for a fag I get people driving past shouting stuff.
“I couldn’t go to my aunt’s funeral yesterday cos it’s dangerous for me to go out.
“I was so close to her, and I was due to carry the coffin and sing at the service.
“It’s terrible. It’s a nightmare. I’m trying my best to stay strong. My mental health really isn’t good.
“It’s times like this when you see who are your real friends are.
“When I was giving tickets to the X Factor live show out I was everyone’s best mate – and now not a message from these so-called pals.
“I’ve had 30-odd cancellations now, that’s my sole income.
“It’s clear the police have no evidence, or I would be charged already.
“But because they’re not treating it as a serious crime, I could be in this horror show for another year until proven innocent.”
Danny said he would be flying out to Benidorm next week as at least he can ‘walk down the street’ in Bradford without being verbally abused.
He thanked loyal fans for their continued support and felt the Spanish destination was where his true friends lay.
He said he won’t give up on his singing career and already has ‘feelers out’ for establishments willing and ready to have him back.
